Congrats Big Bash and Mr.Ambrose on another fine midget state experience. The awards were great, loved the T shirts for first. The competition level was at one of its all time high in terms of quality. There were some definitely LOADED brackets. Not sure how some of the groups were split up but the A bracket in most cases I believe were a bit tougher. But all in all, a great experience. I wish my son and a few other kids are on our team would have wrestled a bit better, but at this age that is what you get. Most importantly they are getting ready for the novice and senior state tournament. And ultimately everyone's main or what should be their main goal, a High School state championship.
A few things I would like to see changed. Eliminate the bracelets and write the weight of the kids on their arms and provide each competitor with a pass too get in and out of the event. This could simply be a card, wouldn't have to be a ticket. It would eliminate everyones concern over breaking a finger on the bands. Secondly, have a wrestle back for true second. I think it would create alot of excitement and would only add one round. This could be done, by eliminating the morning break and wrestling thru to the finals. Grand March than a bit earlier, with the wrestle for 2nd , if necessary, after the finals. Would make it alot more exciting and eliminate people complaining of a bad draw also. Or possibly wrestle a round or 2, Friday night also.
The last and only thing I have to say, is maybe in the coming years. We let kids that place in state wrestle in this event. Regardless of how they place at novice state. Think of the competition in the venue if this occurred the last few years. It would also eliminate, which happens every year. A kid trying to decide if he should lose on purpose at novice state, so he won't place and than can participate in Midget State. This does happen, all coaches know it is happening and kind of the only downside to having midget state. Let the 10 year olds wrestle, place or not. Maybe a 8 or 9 year old could surprise one of the placers in Novice. Just a thought or how I feel. But I am probably in the minority.....
Just a few thoughts and thanks everyone who put on this event. It is good for the kids in this age group to experience a state like atmosphere and event.
