I am curious as to how you figure out who makes the team. It is not political however no wrestler needs to wrestle off but is selected based on what. I allowed my sons' name out there only as a suggestion however I have not been contacted and heard through a third party that my son might make a B team even though he has beaten the kid that is slated for the A team. You need some sort of criteria to eliminate the politics otherwise keep staying at their homes and have a family team. I would like my son to compete on an all illinois team so Chris I only want a chance to compete for the first chair or let the first chair help my son become a better wrestler through better competition. Let me know

Wrestle offs...When I took my first all star dual teams I though wrestle offs were the way to go. I have taken successful national teams and the even the selection process for a location would be extremely difficult. Would it be decided by population, center of the state, or how to be fair? Next you would have to make sure the national placer winners are all available on the date you select, or they wouldn't be able to make the team. On top of that add the cost of travel to the wrestle off. Novel idea, but from my experience I would say Good luck with that.
I have asked for results and updates to select the wrestlers for the team. Stats, head to head, national place finishes, and doing well wrestling up is all information I need. Hopefully you can understand that it is impossible for me to be at every tournament or collect every stat. If your son has beat some of the better kids in the state that is what I need to know. Who, when, and where? I enjoy an honest debate backed by fact and stats. How can I be political? I am from the southern section and feel very comfortable with my few selections from the southern area. If you have any other questions or statements, feel free to share.

I think it is great that Illinois is bringing several teams to this event. With all the great talent in Illinois, I think all the teams will be represented well. In a perfect world all the coaches would get along in a friendly but competitive way.
Based on all the kids locations I think it is too hard to organize a team and do wrestle-offs. If your kid beat a kid that is slated ahead of your kid than you need to point that out to the coach. I assume head to head victories are important if they happened this season. Any head to head matches that occurred in the summer or last season shouldn't hold much water when it comes to comparing two wrestlers. I know a kid who started working out with an elite off-season club this season and this kid has improved 200% from last season to this season. This kid is now one of the top midgets at his weight and has beaten several kids that he lost to last season.

I would suggest you look at Martinez Open Jan 3 2009 on Trackwrestling and then take a look at South Chicago regionals both Plainfield and Kankakee. Is it better to win first place against 3rd graders or 2nd place against 7th graders. My son is 24-3 at midget with 2 losses to Andrew Matticks by points and one to a kid from CIA(Indiana)He is 7-5 at novice and has an outside chance to advance to Rockford. He most likely will have a #1 seed at Midget State I would say that this qualifies him as one of the top fifth graders in Illinois. His weight has been 84 to 87 lbs all season so 85 lbs would be a natural weight for him.

Update Due to complications I will be advancing all head coaching responsibilities to Nathan Martinez (Martinez Elite). With the wrestlers he can contribute to the solid line up core, the team should be much stronger. Myself and/or Nathan Martinez will be contacting everyone between now and this weekend to finalize all specifics. Thanks to all the wrestlers that had interest and all of the families that will compete.
